KN+12 and the Science of Ageing Well: Why Your Cells Are Thinking Long-Term

Post 7 in the Süreyya Kahve Wellness Cups series
When we talk about ageing well, it’s easy to picture an ambitious reset: a perfect routine, a fresh calendar and a long list of habits to master. But the most meaningful changes are often more ordinary. They’re the small choices we can return to, day after day.
That’s the thinking behind the Wellness Cups at Süreyya Kahve: a little moment of pleasure with thoughtful ingredients woven in. In this cup, we’re looking at KAILO’s KN+12 LIVE WELL, a superblend featuring creatine and Urolithin A, alongside collagen, fava bean protein, probiotics and magnesium.
The ingredients offer a window into an exciting area of research: how our cells maintain their energy systems over time. The science is promising, still developing, and worth exploring without expecting any one ingredient to be a shortcut to a longer life.
First, what do we mean by “ageing well”?
Ageing well isn’t about chasing a number or trying to turn back the clock. It’s about supporting the foundations of everyday wellbeing (things like movement, nourishment, rest and connection) so you can keep doing more of what matters to you.
At a cellular level, researchers are studying mitochondria: structures inside cells that help produce energy. Like other parts of the cell, mitochondria can become damaged or less efficient. Cells have a natural clean-up and recycling process called mitophagy, which helps remove worn-out mitochondria. This process is one part of a much bigger picture of cellular maintenance, and it may become less efficient with age.

That’s where Urolithin A has attracted scientific interest, not as a promise of extended lifespan, but as a compound researchers are investigating for its potential role in mitochondrial health.
Urolithin A: a postbiotic with an interesting origin story
Urolithin A is a postbiotic compound that some gut bacteria can make when they metabolise ellagitannins: plant compounds found in foods such as pomegranates, berries and walnuts.
Here’s the catch: not everyone’s gut microbiome produces Urolithin A efficiently. That variation is one reason supplemental Urolithin A is being studied. It offers researchers a way to investigate the compound without relying on each person’s individual capacity to produce it from food.
In laboratory research, Urolithin A has been associated with mitophagy-related activity. Human studies have also looked at changes in biomarkers and measures of muscle performance. These are useful clues, but they are not the same as proving that a supplement increases mitophagy in everyday human life, or that it makes people live longer.
What have human studies found so far?
The emerging evidence is encouraging, but it deserves a measured reading.
In a randomised clinical trial involving older adults, Urolithin A supplementation was associated with improvements in some measures of muscle endurance and changes in biomarkers linked to mitochondrial metabolism. However, the trial did not find significant benefits over placebo for every outcome, including its measures of walking performance and maximal ATP production. Read the trial in JAMA Network Open.
A separate randomised trial in middle-aged adults also reported positive findings in some secondary measures, including muscle strength and exercise performance. Its primary endpoint, peak power, did not significantly improve. Explore the study via PubMed Central.
A 2024 systematic review of human research found signals in some mitochondrial and inflammation-related markers, alongside mixed findings across performance and other health measures. The studies were relatively small and short, so larger and longer trials are needed to clarify what the results mean over time. Read the systematic review.
In plain language: Urolithin A is a promising research area, not a proven route to longevity. The science is still working out which effects are meaningful, for whom, and over what timeframe.
Creatine and a practical approach to active ageing
KN+12 LIVE WELL also includes creatine, an ingredient with a substantial body of research, particularly in relation to muscle and physical performance. Research in older adults suggests creatine may support lean mass and some measures of strength and function, especially when paired with resistance exercise. Results vary, and the quality of evidence is not uniform, but the broader evidence base is more established than it is for Urolithin A.
This is a helpful reminder that a supplement works within a bigger routine. Regular movement, adequate nutrition, recovery and consistency matter. A scoop or a dessert cup doesn’t replace those foundations; it can be one small part of a routine that feels realistic enough to keep.

A delicious ritual, not another grand resolution
The best wellness habit isn’t necessarily the most elaborate one. It’s often the one you can actually enjoy and repeat.
That idea comes to life in the four Wellness Cups featuring KN+12 LIVE WELL:
- Supangle Chia Pudding, with +2.1g creatine
- Tiramisu OatChia, with +0.7g creatine
- Rose Pistachio Tiramisu, with +0.7g creatine
- London Lemon Tiramisu, with +1.25g creatine
Each brings a different flavour and texture to the ritual, while making space for ingredients that are part of a wider conversation about nourishment and active living. Explore the Süreyya Kahve Wellness Cups and find a favourite that fits your day.

Keep the long view, and stay grounded
Ageing well is a long game. It’s less about chasing a single breakthrough and more about building a pattern of supportive choices you can return to: move your body, eat well, make time to recover, and choose rituals that bring a little pleasure to the everyday.
KN+12 LIVE WELL brings creatine and Urolithin A together with collagen, fava bean protein, probiotics and magnesium in one blend. If you’re curious about the formulation, visit the KAILO KN+12 LIVE WELL product page for the current product details.
The research on Urolithin A is still unfolding, and no single ingredient can promise a longer life. But small, enjoyable habits can make a thoughtful routine easier to sustain. Sometimes, the long view begins with one lovely cup, and the choice to show up for yourself again tomorrow.
MAKE YOUR NEXT WELLNESS MOMENT COUNT.
